The Praça de D. Pedro IV better known as Rossio Square, has been the nerve center of Lisbon for six centuries and is located on the northern edge of the Baixa district. Named after Peter IV of Portugal. Bullfights, festivals and even auto-da-fe were held there during the Spanish Inquisition. Today there are occasional political rallies and its sober buildings house souvenir shops, jewelers and bars.
