The Lisbon Oceanário is an aquarium dedicated to the oceans. It is located in the Parque das Nações, the area of the Portuguese capital that hosted Expo '98. The building is the work of the North American architect Peter Chermayeff and is located on the banks of a dock. The aquarium is one of the largest in the world, cost approximately 60 million dollars and houses a huge number of marine species, from fish to birds to mammals.
The exhibition consists of a large central tank which houses species that live in the open ocean (such as sharks and large tuna) and four smaller side tanks which instead show fauna and flora of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Antarctic regions.
