The Varone waterfalls are located in the municipality of Tenno, 3 km from Riva del Garda. They are almost 100 meters high, and originate from the Magnone stream, which flows under the Ravizze valley and descends towards Lake Garda. Its waters are fed by the underground leaks of Lake Tenno which enters the mountain for a short distance and then forms a waterfall. The name Varone instead originates from the homonymous fraction of Riva del Garda located a short distance away.
The walkway that enters the gorge under the waterfall was inaugurated on June 20, 1874; by the King of Saxony, John, and Prince Nicholas of Montenegro. Since then it has become a must-visit for all tourists and is still considered one of the pride of the city today.
