It is the holiest place for the Jewish religion, the Western Wall. Also known as the Wailing Wall, it is located in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem. According to Jewish beliefs, it would be the wall that supported the first and second temples of Solomon. The Western Wall is the only vestige of Temple Jerusalem and the closest point to the Holy of Holies. The term, taken from the Old Testament, refers to the sanctuary inside the Tabernacle, and later to the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Ark of the Covenant was kept. A holy place, it was accessible only to the High Priest during the feast of Yum Kippur.
