The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is the only Protestant church in the Old City, and is also the tallest building in the entire neighborhood, towering over the entire Christian Quarter and Muristan and located around the corner from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The church was commissioned by the Prussian prince Friedrich Wilhelm and was built between 1880 and 1890 on land received as a gift in 1869 from the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
