La Elisabeth Tower, comunemente denominata Big Ben, è uno dei monumenti simbolo di Londra. Tecnicamente, Big Ben è il nome della Great Bell, la massiccia campana che si trova all'interno della torre dell'orologio.

Il palazzo di Westminster fu distrutto da un incendio nel 1834. Nel 1844 si decise che la nuova costruzione delle Houses of Parliament dovesse includere una torre con orologio. Il primo tocco di Big Ben risuonò a Westminster il 31 maggio 1859 e da allora l'orologio si è fermato raramente. Anche dopo che una bomba, durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, ha distrutto la Camera dei Comuni, il Big Ben ha continuato a battere le ore. Di notte quando i quattro quadranti sono illuminati, la torre dell'orologio offre uno spettacolo straordinario.

Most Beautiful Place in World, I visited there before 7 years, still in my mind, London’s iconic Big Ben, the bell inside a clock tower by the Houses of Parliament, will fall silent next Monday for the next four years, due to conservation work. The Elizabeth Tower, which houses the Great Clock and Big Ben (also known as the Great Bell), is currently undergoing renovation work. As this work takes place, the regular bongs of Big Ben will be paused at noon (GMT) Aug. 21 until 2021, according to a parliament statement.

The Elizabeth clock tower is one of the most photographed Places in London. You should definitely visit it on a city walk. But be aware that the clock tower and parts of the Palace of Westminster are under restoration work right now and can't be seen in all it's beauty.

I love seeing Big Ben. He’s currently getting work done, always worth seeing. Just watch crossing the streets due to the tremendous traffic
