Dalt Vila is a Renaissance citadel, which dominates the bay from a promontory on which in 654 BC. the Carthaginians had founded the city of Bes, then occupied by the Arabs in 902 and by the Catalans in 1235. Protected by mighty walls, Dalt Vila is an open-air museum crossed by narrow streets, sometimes bumpy and steep, overlooked by historic buildings and monuments, including the Almudaina castle and the Catedral Santa Maria de les Neus.
