The National Museum building was designed by Finnish architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. They won the architectural competition for the design in 1902, and construction work was mainly conducted between 1905 and 1910. The museum opened to the public in 1916. The National Museum of Finland presents Finnish history from the Stone Age to the present day, through objects and cultural history. The Finnish National Romantic style building is located in central Helsinki and is part of the National Board of Antiquities, under the Ministry of Culture and Education.
