Helsinki Central Station is the main station for commuter trains and long-distance trains departing from Helsinki. The station is used by around 400,000 people a day, of which around 200,000 are passengers. It serves as the terminus for all trains on the Helsinki railway network, as well as all Helsinki long-distance trains in Finland. The Central Railway Station underground station is located in the same building. The station building was designed by Eliel Saarinen and opened in 1919. Helsinki Central was chosen by the BBC as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world in 2013.
