The Elbphilharmonie (literally "Elbe Philharmonic") is a concert hall in the city of Hamburg, Germany, located in the HafenCity district.
It is one of the largest and most acoustically advanced concert halls in the world. She is also known by the nickname Elphi. The glass construction resembles a hoisted sail, a wave or a quartz crystal, and rests on top of an old warehouse (Kaispeicher A, built in 1963), in the vicinity of the historic Speicherstadt. Built to a design by the Herzog & de Meuron studio, it includes two concert halls, one with 2,000 seats and one with approximately 550 seats, a hotel and 44 apartments. It is the tallest habitable building in Hamburg, with a final height of 108 metres. It was inaugurated on 11 January 2017, with a concert by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock.
