The area on which the Castelletto stood, divided into lots and built in the mid-nineteenth century, extends between Piazza Goffredo Villa and the Luigi Montaldo belvedere, a panoramic terrace overlooking the roofs of the historic centre, the basin of the ancient port, the palaces of “Strada Nuova“ (via Garibaldi) and on the underlying buildings with hanging gardens that house the municipal offices, designed in the fifties by Franco Albini. This panoramic view, publicized by historic photos from the early twentieth century, is today one of the best known and most authentic images of Genoa.
