The octagonal Battistero di San Giovanni

The baptistery of San Giovanni Battista stands in front of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, in Piazza San Giovanni. Dedicated to the patron saint of the city of Florence, it has the dignity of a minor basilica.

Made in Florentine Romanesque style, with its famous bronze doors, the Baptistery has an octagonal plan and is covered by a dome with eight segments. Splendid mosaics with a golden background decorate the dome and the apse of the Baptistery of San Giovanni.
