The Pula amphitheater (also called Pula Arena in Croatian: Pulska Arena) is the sixth largest of its kind. Its name derives from the Latin ărēna, which indicates the sand that covered the stalls of the Roman amphitheaters. Among the inhabitants of Pula, the emblematic monument of the city, of great symbolic and emotional value, is usually called Rena, from the Istro-Venetian dialect.
