Paklenica is a national park, and is located in Starigrad in northern Dalmatia, on the southern slopes of Velebit mountain. The most attractive and most valuable parts of the park are definitely the impressive canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica. Velika Paklenica canyon is 14 km long and 500-800 m wide. The Mala Paklenica canyon is 12 km long and 400-500 meters wide. The park is home to around 1000 plant species and over 250 animal species including amphibians, mammals and birds. Paklenica is also the most visited climbing site in Croatia and the largest in Southeastern Europe.
