Château du Moulin

Castle Châteaux of the Loire Valley, France

Spectacular and impressive Château du Moulin

Built in the late 15th and early 16th century for Philippe du Moulin, a young friend of King Charles VIII, the building is the work of the architect Jacques de Persigny. Entirely in black and orange brick, on a rectangular plan surrounded by a moat, the castle of Moulin presents an interesting aspect of the medieval castle. From the original monument, the château framing the entrance, the dungeon, the curtain and one of the towers enhanced by Louis XIII remain today. Still inhabited, it is possible to visit only a few furnished rooms and the vegetable garden redesigned in the 20th century. The Strawberry Conservatory has also taken up residence there.
