Built in the heart of a vast forest full of game, Chambord was not designed to be a permanent residence but simply a hunting lodge. Francis I loved to spend his days there to devote himself to the pleasure of hunting, a privilege reserved for the nobility at the time. He only stayed for short periods in the castle, leaving it completely empty after each passage and, ultimately, the castle was never finished… Over the centuries, other characters and kings of France, including the famous Sun King (Louis XIV) and the castle has been continuously transformed and embellished.
