Kirstenbosch on the one hand is a suburb of the South African city of Cape Town, on the other it is the term used by the Boers, which designates the Botanical Garden. It is the largest of South Africa's 8 National Botanic Gardens, managed by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). It has a total area of 528 hectares with 470 hectares of natural vegetation in the area and 58 hectares of air-conditioned gardens. It is a member of the BGCI and submits work for the International Agenda for Conservation in botanic gardens, its international identification code as a botanical institution and its herbarium is NBG.
