Boulders Beach

Free Beach Cape Town, South Africa

Here you can meet the famous African penguin Boulders Beach

The penguin colony spontaneously settled on this beach in 1982, when two couples chose it as a breeding site and since then, thanks also to the protection they enjoy, it has reached almost 3,500 units. The bay, which is part of the Table Mountain National Park reserve, is protected from Atlantic currents which make the water temperature warmer than those surrounding the coast.

Worhtwhile Stop en route to Cape Point or for a drive out for the day. A lovely Shaded wooden path is built between the Penguin sanctuary, without actually disturbing these amazing creatures, you can still get within arms length for that picture perfect Photo. This walkway runs all the way down to the Beach where the penguins play and swim in the waves.

Had a really nice time at Boulders Beach. There are two parts - one with a beach that you can swim in a another with a viewing platform next to a big section of the beach filled with penguins. In between these two entrances is a walkway with penguins hiding in the shelter of the shrubbery. One entrance fee gets you into both entrances. It was very windy when we were there.
