Potsdamer Platz is an important Berlin square, located in the Tiergarten district, on the border with Mitte. It takes its name from the city of Potsdam, located 25 km southwest, and is located at the point where the road to Potsdam passed the customs wall via the Potsdamer Tor.
The square has had a troubled history, feeling the effects of the events that transformed Berlin during the 20th century. Potsdamer Platz is the center of a new residential, business and commercial district; constitutes an exceptional tourist attraction and symbolizes the new Berlin.
