The Olympiastadion Berlin is the main stadium in Berlin. On the site where it stands there were two stadiums, the current one and a previous one (built between 1912 and 1913) which was supposed to host the undisputed 1916 Olympics. The facility, located in western Berlin, was built for the Olympics of 1936 and inaugurated at the beginning of the games by Adolf Hitler. Designed by local architect Werner March, it initially housed 100,000 people.
