Checkpoint Charlie was a major checkpoint located in Berlin between the Soviet and US sectors. Located on Friedrichstraße, at the crossroads with Zimmerstraße, it connected the Soviet district of Mitte with the US district of Kreuzberg.
It was established in August 1961 following the construction of the Berlin Wall to allow the transit of military personnel of the allied forces and foreign visitors. After reunification the checkpoint was torn down while the original guard barrack is now in the Alliertenmuseum.
