Alexanderplatz is an important square in Berlin, in the Mitte district. It was originally a cattle market, and was therefore called Ochsenplatz (oxen square); it was given the name Alexanderplatz in honor of a visit by the Russian Tsar Alexander I to Berlin on 25 October 1805.
Alexanderplatz is surrounded by several famous buildings, including the Fernsehturm, the TV Tower, the second tallest structure in Europe. The square also houses the World Time Clock, a structure that rotates continuously showing the time in various areas of the Earth.
