The Plaça Reial (or Plaza Real in Spanish) of the city of Barcelona is a square plaza communicating with La Rambla and is located in the Barri Gòtic. The square is known for the lively nightlife that finds space among the clubs of which the area is rich, for the fountain located in the center of the square itself and for the palm trees that adorn it.
It is twinned with the Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City and since 1988 mariachi music festivals are celebrated here. Furthermore, the street lamps of the square were made by the architect Gaudì, as his first urban commission.
