Zaanse Schans

Windmills Amsterdam, Netherlands

Zaanse Schans is a small community of 40 houses located northeast of Amsterdam on the quay of the river Zaan. In the 18th century this region was an industrial area with over 700 windmills. Many of these historic mills and some houses are still in excellent condition and represent a strong tourist attraction, so much so that some can be visited inside.
