Vondelpark is an English park of about 48 hectares in the center of Amsterdam, built on a project by architects Jan David Zocher (1791 - 1870) and Louis Paul Zocher (1820 - 1915) and opened to the public in June 1865. The park is not only used for walking, jogging or picnicking, but also for concerts and other events, such as golf tournaments. The Vondelpark takes its name from the Dutch poet and playwright Joost van den Vondel (1587 – 1679), of whom a statue has been erected on site.
